January Runfessions

Alright, it's time for another linkup!  At the end of every month, us fitness bloggers share our Runfessions - about running, lifting, working out (or not working out), or whatever we have to get off our chests!  Thanks so much to Marcia at Marcia's Healthy Slice for hosting!

Runfession #1: We'll start with an actually running confession - I've hardly been running at all lately.  I started this blog because I was getting deep into the racing scene in Chicago, and I was truly loving it!  Right now, I'll blame the cold and snow and ice for why I'm not lacing up more often, but the truth is that I'm focusing so much more on teaching fitness classes and building muscle through lifting and cross training.  Hopefully I'll re-inspire myself to run more again when it warms up, at least for the puppy's sake!

Runfession #2: Related to #1, this blog is kind of becoming not-a-running-blog, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.  I started blogging for two reasons: to keep myself accountable as a newbie runner, and to help inspire others the way other bloggers inspired me when I was beginning this fitness journey.  Over the year and a half since I started, this blog has evolved along with me, and I'm trying to accept that it's okay for these changes to happen.  I have some new things I want to try here, and hopefully people will keep reading.  I do know that blogging DOES still keep me accountable to some of the fitness commitments I have made, and that much I KNOW I like!

Runfession #3: I'm starting my new job pretty soon as a race director (maybe that'll help me run more eh?) and I'm incredibly nervous about it.  There's no doubt in my mind that I can handle the job and excel at it, but it's a big career switch, and one that I want to last for a very long time.  I've never had a job that I truly expected to love, so my biggest worry is that maybe I won't enjoy it as much as I expect I will.  I'm getting a little old to keep assuming I can switch careers easily or even at all, so I really want to both enjoy and perform at this new job so I can finally have an actual "career path."

Runfession #4: I turn 30 in a little over a week.  'Nuff said there, right?

What runfessions do you have?  What's your dream job, and are you lucky enough to be in it right now?  How do you handle nervous jitters?

  2. My blog has evolved from what it used to be too. I think it's fine! :) I tend to lift more in the winter because sometimes running in negative temps just doesn't sound fun to me! I feel ya on that one.

    1. It's a good excuse to cross train! But I do miss running on beautiful days - we have some gorgeous parks around here and my puppy always makes it extra fun!

  3. That's awesome that you'll be a Race Director, I have so much respect for them, so much work involved in making a successful race! I think the evolution of any blog is normal - life changes and the blog reflects that so well! Good luck with your new direction!

    1. Thanks! I know I'll be kept busy (which I like) and it helps to be making a living from something I love!

  4. My blog has undergone a name change twice since I started it. The most recent name was designed to encompass non-running things better. As soon as I did that, I found myself talking more and more about RUNNING! Ha! THanks for linking up!

    1. When I chose my blog name, I wanted to make sure I wasn't painting myself into a corner in case it DID evolve. Mostly, I blog for ME so the changes are not a huge deal, but I hope I keep people interested!

  5. Sounds to me like we are having some of the same issues. I haven't been running much either because I just haven't been feeling it and I blog a lot about running and I feel bad that I have started straying from it. Here's the thing there is nothing wrong with either! It took me a while to get there but now that I am I am happy to accept it!

    1. I'm just glad I'm still moving! But yes, change sometimes takes a while to accept, but I know I'll be okay!

  6. Not that you're turning 30 or anything, but that's a very "mature" revelation to acknowledge you have evolved with running and fitness in general. Running certainly is my main sport, but I have come to realize that "running" will only do so much for my running ability...so I'm trying to constantly encourage others to cross-train and "violate that comfort zone" by doing other non-running activity. As we know, it's a journey ;-) Happy (early) Birthday!

    1. YES! Cross training is an important part of improving in running anyway, so it's a convenient excuse to spend less time pounding pavement ;) But the evolution happens, and I'm sure I'll come to terms with it soon!

  7. I started my blog to also keep me accountable for my fitness and life goals last year...1 post in January, then reading posts all year, then started actually posting in the fall...I am now holding myself more accountable to post! Happy birthday!

    1. It takes a while to get consistent with blogging. I still struggle with it. But eventually you get the hang of it and can't live without it! Welcome to the blogosphere!

  8. I think it's great that your fitness goals are changing from just running to other things. There's nothing wrong with that!! And I'm so excited for you to be a race director. I'm sure it will be tough and stressful at time but also fun and excited. Good luck!!

    1. It's cool to have a wide range of things happening with my fitness career! Just plain running probably would have bored me after a while anyway - now those run days are a change-up from the other stuff!
